Full Version: Fresh Air Box Rebuild - Replacing Blower Motor

My wiper assembly is not parking properly (as discussed in this post) so I need to perform the dreaded task of pulling the fresh air box to get to the wiper assembly. I've watched Ian's video which is super helpful.

I'd like to rebuild the air box while I have it out. I bought the 914 Rubber kit to replace all of the seals and grill. I'd like to replace the fan motor too while I'm in there.

My question: is this the right part (or best part) for a 914 fresh air box?

I replaced mine and was so happy to have a defrost again bit of a task, but well worth the effort

Seems like it bur it might just be that they work properly

FYI, You won't be able to use Ian's clamp unless you pull the hood. I just did this and wished I had done a video on it. The 914rubber gasket between the halves is pretty thick so I recommend you assemble, wait a few days then retighten to compress that seal even more. You will need every 1/10mm you can get. More importantly; use a thin bead of black silicone to adhere the new grille/gasket combo. It's much more solid & you won't need to futz with the runner bands to hold in place. beerchug.gif

this will work great along with the rebuild kit seals etc from 914rubber, Ian's video much help, a couple years ago i did a thread on this too.

Yes they push a lot more air than i thought they would. !

Thanks; that’s my biggest complaint- air flow is minimal at the highest setting

When I did my airbox, I found that the new gasket that fits between the upper and lower halves of the plastic airbox was too thick, once you put the new upper gasket onto the top of the airbag and tried to re-install the assembly under the body cowl sheetmetal. So, I took out the plastic airbox' middle gasket used a bead of black silicon to seal the motor lower half against the airbox' upper half. With that modification, the refreshed air box fit into place just fine without the need for Ian Karr's tool setup or the need to remove the hood. The metal body cowl area is pretty flexible if you remove the bolts on each of the metal arms which support the upper cowl sheetmetal.
