My buddy just picked up his full sized floor jack. Dang.....

Now I need to buy a full sized floor jack.

New or used as long as it's in good working condition.

Cheaper is better than expensive.

Sooner is better than later.

Most standard floor jacks wont fit under a lowered 914. The wife bought me a Craftsman low profile model from Sears. It was around 200.00? Fits under the car perfectly.

The best jack I found for a reasonable price was at Kragen. $100.00, lowest low hight and good high hight.

When it's on sale, the aluminum one from Harbor Freight is a nice one (~80.00). I've got a full size Walker Floor jack that must be 30 years old, but the aluminum one is so nice and light, I rarely reach for the old metal one. It seems to be strong enough for home use.

I just bought an Aluminum Jack at Kragen about a month ago about $80. Without the rubber pad it will just fit under my car and my car is slammed.

If you do not buy an aluminum jack you will regret it. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but someday, someday soon. The $200 jack at Sears is a very nice piece and will start a bit lower than the Kragen model, but the price difference was the seller for me.

I love my new jack, seriously. Hope my wife doesn't find out.

that's why there are jack receivers built into the longs...

I got one at Northern tool but harbor freight has them too... around $75 IIRCit's a paint, but I use a small jack to get the car on jack stands, and then raise the car with the big floor jack... the small one will do 90% of the jobs anyway... I use the big one for dropping the engine or when I need to get way under... the small one is so much easier to maneuver...

I got one pretty much identical to that from Costco for like $65. Nice and low, and it goes high enough, I haven't maxed it out yet.

yep, where as I look and think, man, $800 I can get a jack, jack stands 4 tires and 4 rims...

got a low profile aluminium jack
was expensive, but worth every penny!
darn, the thing is light... real easy to haul around

3 ton jack from sears...under a hundred bucks...fits under the car, and raises it to almost 21 inches...got the heavy duty sears jackstands too....all on sale pretty often.

i got a NAPA furious jack for my birthday, very well built and has a low profile end for lowered cars, works great but it is heavy. Those aluminum low profile jacks at harbor freight are great too for autox changing tires but for a shop jack get a good one.

I say get an aluminum jack for occasional use. I really appreciate the light weight compared to a heavier steel jack.

So, I'm in the market for a hydraulic jack. My wife hands me today's Sears
ad. There's a 1.5-ton aluminum/steel jack on sale for $90. I go to the
Sears website to check the specs. Looks reasonable: 3.75-18.5 lift range,
but it lists the material as "aluminized steel" and has a weight of 55 lbs.
That seems a little heavy. The Harbor Freight aluminum jack weighs 35 lbs.
Northern Tools doesn't list the weight of their Torin racing jack, but the
shipping weight is only 49 lbs. Both are around $170. My guess is the
Craftsman is a basic steel jack with some pieces having a sprayed on
aluminum coating.

Thoughts on this mystery?

I have several of the economy 1-3 ton floor jacks.

then I bought a motorhome...none of them can lift it...

So, I got the biggest one Sears sells...it is three tons, but it it heavyduty...

Now, on the lowered car...I just have four pieces of 2*10 laying near where the tires sit...drive in, put the pieces just in front of the tires...push car up on the pieces of wood, presto..your jack now fits fine.

I have bent a few jacks over the years...with trucks. buildings, and large problems...

I hate aluminum jacks..there is no bend...only break...not cool.
