I am looking for the family 914.6 when I was a kid that was basically hocked for cash {Don't get high on your own supply} in the mid 80's in the Fort Lauderdale area.

About the car. Red top, extended wheel wells, black Fuchs wheels, chrome bumpers, red duck tail. Radio was Blaupunkt. Black interior.

The engine had dual 3 pack webers, a slight misfire at idle until you stepped on the gas. The car could smoke the tires off the wheels if needed. Engine was built by someone that built racing engines for IMSA.

If it is known where the car is I would love to have it back or at least see it. I think I remember the Florida tag but I do not know the Vin#

I have no info for you but here's a Maybe send it to the top a couple times will do it. Maybe you can dig up the VIN. If anyone in the family has some old repair receipts. We have a pretty good VIN database thanks to Sir Andy.

Insurance records or DMV records?

I've tried to hunt down a few 914's I've owned in the past with no luck. I think each state is a little different how you can look up by VIN or possibly plate number.

There's online stuff that claims to locate owners by VIN.

I learned to drive in this car more than 40 years ago. Way before computers. The engine was built in a living room on a coffee table. Receipts are not an option as payments were all probably trades or untraceable cash. Sperm donor died years ago and it had been at least 35 years since I broke all contacts with him. I’m even looking for the Pearl White 55 Chevy truck with the 396.

I have an extensive database of 914/6s and would gladly search it for your car but there is nowhere near enough information here to do any kind of search for a red 914/6 with flares sold in the '80s. The VIN would be the ticket. If you don't have that then I'm gonna need some more info. Like the name of the person you sold it to or the name of the person who built the engine or a real photo of the car.

I was able to find the person that built the engine. He did not respond but his son did via Facebook. The son reached out to his father and he remembered the car but had not seen it since the mid 80s either. Guess he wanted to leave that part of his past behind. Im still searching and won't ever give up. Just hope its still alive.

If it was in decent condition when you sold it in the 80s there is a good chance that it is still around somewhere. Lately these cars have been moving around the world quite a bit. I have seen a lot of 914/6s that were originally sold in the US end up back in Europe. I have also gotten requests for information for cars originally sold in the US from Argentina, South Africa, Saudi Arabia, Japan, Australia and most recently the Phillipines. No telling where it might be.

I would call John Forbes at the black forest, now in denver North Carolina. He has a repair shop in delray for years and serviced all of the local 914s. He probably saw it around and would remember it

Been doing a lot of searching sine I got the Vin and it's not listed on your supplied site. Well the car is a 73 but it had a 6 cylinder in it. Just hung up with older sister and she confirmed it did not have the original engine. Still searching.

So you are looking for a 1973 6 cylinder conversion. Last real sixes were built in 1972. If you've checked the 4 cylinder database then like Andy said, Google

I’ve checked google, I’ve paid for a deep search through websites and unfortunately most sites don’t even recognize a 10 number vin#. For all I know it could be a barn find somewhere someday.

Sorry dude, I'm sure that vin is burned into your memory now so don't give up. Just keep an eye out. Stranger things have happened, look at me.

Maybe search it on facebook? And or post the vin here. Why not?

I will never give up looking. Most of the associates during that time frame are either dead, in prison or left the country.
