I’m in the process of stripping the targa top down for restoration. Can’t seem to get this front pad off. I can’t see the screw heads and I don’t want to strip them. I’ve looked in my Haynes manual, searched the board, and Googled. No luck. I give up.

Is it a Phillips head and if so, what size?

Don’t bugger up the screw heads. Keep the driver straight and apply lots of pressure to keep the driver seated. Corrosion may fight you.

And don't think those screws are centered with the hole. They are screwed in at different angles too. I use an awl or pick to find the center of the head then I know what angle to hold the screwdriver. As mentioned above keep pressure on the screw driver.

As others have mentioned, there are very small phillips head screws buried down at the bottom of the crash padding on the targa top. Take your time when removing them because it is easy to strip out the phillips head of the screws.

You can find the best angle of attack with the screw driver by turning it slightly after insertion until it locks with the feel of a "snug click." You may have to change the angle slightly until the screw driver grips the screw head. Go slow as previously mentioned.

I removed a pad today and all of the screws were hidden behind deteriorating foam. I used a 1/4" drill bit turned slowly by hand to remove the loose foam until i could remove each screw. Use some canned air to clean them out. Look in with a flash light to find the screw head.

Good news ... I got the screws out without stripping them.

Bad news ... the pad did not survive. It sort of fell apart while pulling it off the targa top. It was like the foam had deteriorated at the base and didn't want to come off in one piece : (

Anybody have an extra one in nice shape laying around they would be willing to let go of?
