I mostly post on the FB forums, and my FB page as I dont get notifications of replies here and will forget what I posted or responded to. That being said, feel free to contact me directly.

Life has changed in a way over the last few years to enable me more time to work in my shop. My home shop was getting very cramped, and this location 10min from my house opened up and I modified it to be the best space. The floor was a mess, I had to grind it and then prep it for the epoxy floor I put down. I am very happy with the results.

I built two rooms in the 2700sf space to add for storage and to keep things looking less crappy. One houses transmission, engine, motorcycle stuff. The other is utility with the compressor, and all of my lifts, and stands, and such.

I researched and purchased a single post lift because I didnt want a permanent lift set up in one spot. They are the most expensive of small shop lifts, but I am very happy with the Amgo LMS-7, 7000# lift. If I had it to do over, I would have check out the 6000# one as the 7000# is just a bit too big for the pads to line up with the jack points. I have to use wood on one arm. Not a big deal as I will be lifting heavy stuff, too. Foot print is 89.5'd x 69.5'w. Easy to move.

The shop space came with a back room already partially walled off, so I closed off one opening and moved all of the cleaning stuff back there; parts washers, laser, sand blaster, vapor hone. I also store transmissions and cases back there for now. Space is getting tight.

Plans had to be modified again as there is a lot of interest in people dropping their whole car off to me for work. I have 2 914/6 in bound, one 911, maybe a second. I also have an 1960 Austin Martin 3000 in the shop for some work. So, two 4 post lifts are inbound to help with storing cars while I work on their drive trains. I already mapped out where they will go to assure they would fit and not be a waste of space.

I divided the work space in half. Transmission on the right, engines on the left.

I had a sign cut out of stainless for my logo. Painted some wood to go behind it and last week it was placed.

All in all, pretty great location and lots of support for which I am grateful. I plan to have a grand opening once the lifts are in and all is set up. Tool boxes going over today, so you know its getting real.

So happy for you !!!

Big changes. Is Evilwerkes a new full time, and the only one, gig?
Root_Werks
Nice! The shop looks like it has plenty of room.

I had a single post lift for years and really liked it. Could move it around sort of like a pallet jack.
rhodyguy
That movable lift is sure interesting.

It’s complicated. I work as much as I want, basically. I still have my own medical clinic with a small panel.

Mike -

This is great! You are truly amazing - no idea how you practice medicine full time and do all you do on tranny's & cars at the same time. Superman indeed.

And I will thank you again for all the help rebuilding my 914 tranny so it's shifting like new. Could not have done it without you.

Enquiring minds want to know: which do you love more - your medical practice? Or your work with tranny's & cars? Two totally different worlds, for sure.....

Someone recently asked me this very question. I was surprised, but wrenching is more enjoyable. The cars don’t fight me, don’t argue, I can drink a beer and work on them, I can walk away mid procedure and come back whenever. Lots of ups.

My medical practice is more of a hobby, now. I have a small panel, and am very accessible to my patients. It finally pays for itself, but I don’t expect to make money for it. I do not because I love it, and in its current iteration I can choose my patients. This is a massive luxury for a doc. I have some very complicated folks that I can spend as much time as I want to with and the results are superior to the assembly line medicine we are forced to practice when employed.

Great update and also just a quick note of thanks that I have been using the transmission that I rebuilt at the clinic some years ago and Santa Clarita and it’s a joy to use. Thank you.

Dude, I wish you lived here. The shop space could use/accommodate another savvy tech.

Congratulations. You’ve definitely found a better balance.

First 4 post in and almost complete. Second due on Friday. Finally, I’ll have some room. Added a 78 911 to the list of customers last weekend. At least it drives so I can store it in my garage until I get the lifts built.
crash914
Wow! I didn't know 4 post lifts come in a wall mount version! I need a 4 post for my shop. Where did you source it?
