We are installing a polycarbonate windshield into our racecar project. The material is .25" thick.

What is the best way to install (no butyl allowed). Maybe silicone or mechanical fasteners.

Also, we would like to use the original chrome trim if possible. Will the clips still work?

thanks,
dr

we are using windshield tabs. My question is more about the connection between the perimeter of the windshield and the frame of the car.

Black Permatex (buy it in the large tube for a caulking gun)

Did you buy it from Spekter (spl?)

Tid bit of info:

Look into the large clear tearoffs (Like Winston cup uses on the windshields)

The poly gets banged up pretty good over a season.. it will need to be polished after every event (unless you run full tear-offs)

purchased from http://www.racingshields.com/

cost $400 for the .25" with anti-scratch coating on both sides. They also offer an anti-fog coating on the inside for another $100 but we did not get it. They sell it trimmed or untrimmed. Check their site, they form windshields for many race teams.

how do the tearoffs attach? Is it just static or tension cling? Where can I get them?
Brad Roberts
The tearoffs are pretty much static cling (its the exact same thing you use on motorcycle helmets)

I'll see if I can locate the source. The stuff looks just like the helicopter tape that everybody uses on the front of their cars (3M thick clear stuff).
