I saw this teener for sale on eBay and have never seen body color headlight surrounds. I have to say I think it looks pretty good.

Kind of blends in a little better, more along the lines of a 928.

Looks fantastic in the dark when your headlights are normally up!

(Sorry, I'm feeling salty today...I have the same reaction when someone wants to spend the extra coin for "vintage-look" LEDs instead of the cheap and common 7" ones...)

Just like steering wheels, need many options so you can appreciate a "new" car when you swap them.

Black, white, body color...

On the prototypes and early cars they were painted body colour

Just thought I’d share. I’ve been into 914s for 44 years and just never seen it done.

I don't like it. Sorry.

This is from a guy that is restoring a 74 Bumble Bee that is black and late enough to have black light surrounds....
So, Fred, you are all matched up anyways!
On second thought...
You could paint those critters YELLOW!

I like the retro look of white surrounds on an early car but easy enough (and cheap) to try it on any car.

I dig it, but wouldn't do it. Although I plan to get black surrounds for my 1970 914-6 so there goes any street cred I have....

Oh. good point. The LE is so "disassembled", I haven't thought about that. Actually, one of the headlamp's cover and eyebrow is from a yellow car (previous fender bender). Maybe I'll go that route...

Maybe, not.

When I had my Bahia Red '72 repainted Jaguar Racing Green, I gave my painter a set of black surrounds to paint body color, intending to retain the white surrounds for future use. The painter misunderstood my directions and painted the white surrounds. I am in the process of buying a set of white surrounds for my car.

Not for me, but doesn't look bad. I think you have to be careful what you paint body color on 914's. It quickly gets into the "I just spray bombed my car" look.

My 73 big six has black surrounds on it. It originally came with white ones, but the rest of the car is red and black, so I replaced them.
The 70 six had black ones on it when we got it. The factory ones were white, so I put the white set on it. It is back to original.
The 74 (Betty's car) had black surrounds on it. It will go back with black surrounds.
That's all for information.....It's your car, do what YOU want to it.
