Hey guys..

My seat belts worked fine when removed 2 years ago (Sounds like a great e-bay ad hu?)

Last night I pulled them off the shelf, to prep them for installation, and to my suprise they didn't work.

I could not pull the strap out. It only pulls out about a 1/2"-3/4" then locks??

Can the seat belt assembly be taken apart? I seem to recall a massive spring/coil inside that shouldn't be messed with.

Any thoughts?

the retractor needs to be held in the aprox position it would be in when installed. ie up and down.

I guess I need to hang upside down from the rafters when I pull on the belt

yepp. if you don't hold it perfectly straight, the safety lock will engage.
hold it upright and pull slow and it should work fine.
