After dropping off my Fuchs to be restored it got me thinking about the Mahles sitting here in my study.
Anyone ever get a set anodized? polished lips with black centers maybe?
It would be cool i'm thinking, like the Factory fuchs finish.

I don't know if you're talking about 4 or 5 lugs
I don't have the one or the other, but you could see lots of them at
http://www.gasburner.net/
well, I'd prefere the plain look

Not too sure if the cast wheels can be anodized successfully due to the porosity. It would probably reduce corrosion a bit better than paint.

oops. I was referring to the 4 bolt ones.
Those are great wheels too.
Too man calories for me though.

I was thinking the same thing. The porosity that comes with forged aluminum is probably not very condusive to anodization.
I do love the look of those gas burners though.

I think paint or powdercoating would be better, the surface might look more uniform......
I dig those black Mahles in the picture....
the 4 luggers might look just as trick with the same concept

Did they make a 4 bolt Mahle? Could someone post a picture of a 4-bolter and possibly a Pedrini (spelling) for my comparision sake.

Well color me surprised. I always thought they were just painted black. What do I know right?

Aaron's clock is a 4-bolt Mahle.

The Pedrini has spokes that line up with the bolt holes. Th mahles don't. The Pedrini has spokes that reach the center ring, the mahles don't. Pedrini has smooth spokes, Mahle has stepped spokes.

Are the Pedrini's 5" widths? How much would you say that a set in excellent condition are worth? Ballpark?

5.5"
price?
I've seen these vary quite a bit, from $200 a set to $400+, depends on the buyer and seller....most people prefer the Fuchs which sorta drives the price down on the Mahles and Pedrinis....I'd imagine the price should be going up on them as the cars get older and rims get destroyed when the car is sent to the wreckers....they'll fit vw bugs as well so there is another market for you...
One thing that makes the Pedrinis worth less in my opinion is that the early model rims do not have the hubcentric feature which means they will not fit '73(?) to '76 cars unless one machines the rim for clearance. Not an easy task for most people.

i've never lifted one before, but i believe the pedrinis are also quite a bit heavier than than the mahles or the fuchs.

They are just painted. The anodizing is clear and only there for durability and corrosion resistance. A wheel that was anodized black would be black everywhere. It is not impossible but highly impractical to color anodize some parts but not others, because it is a dye immersion process. You can anodize cast aluminum, but they don't take dye as well, and you will end up with a rougher finish. 5 bolt mahles are magnesium and can't be color anodized (and magnesium anodizing is a special process with different chemicals, has fewer benefits, and looks bad... it's pretty much only done for industrial purposes)
