I started watching this show and now my wife even watches it. I think its better than Monster Garage, which has really gotten stupid (how many cars, trucks, streetsweepers, etc can you convert to something else?).

Does anyone know about the custom one-off bikes (911 Fire Truck bike, Spiderman bike etc) are they pre-sold or built than sold?

I doubt they are sold before completion.

They are done to showcase the abilities of the shop.
They are probably kept for a certain amount of time for shows/etc then sold off.

they probably get over $30k for them (too much for me).

Man, I would not buy a bike from those disfunctional freaks!

Jesse James is a different story, and obviously, you can find his awesome stuff @ www.westcoastchoppers.com

The bikes those Orange County morons make are store bought, you could build those with a little welding experience, West Coast's are works of art.

Bikes are expensive, S&S motors cost around the same as a 911 motor, the all chrome ones, with 1000lbs of bling are in the $85,000.00 range.

I agree, they buy their frames, fenders, etc...even on the show bikes.
Jesse is an artist.

I saw Shaq's old green Jesse James at a bike shop in Hollywood when I lived there. It was huge, cool and very green.

I agree they buy nearly all the parts but Paul Jr. does come up with the concepts and makes it all come together. Where as, Paul Sr. just storms around pushing people get the work done.

It also seems that they have a "standard" line of custom bikes that they build, which really pays the bills.

It is one of the very few shows my wife and I watch together.

I saw the father and son interviewed... they said they made 6-12 of the "theme" bikes a year and they sold in the $175,000 range. They said they do 1-2 "standard customs" a month (in the $70g range) and claim to have 3 bikes a week in their shop for "minor custom work" which makes up a bulk of their business.

Those shows are amazing for merchandizing. The 16 year old kid across the street seems to wear nothing but Wect Coast Chopper and Orange County Chopper T-shirts and hats. Whats funny is his only bike is a Vespa (...no joke).
Wyclef Jean (the rapper) apparently saw them building the Spiderman Bike on TV and tracked them down to buy it.. now you occationally see him crusing with it on MTV.

I love A/C and Jessie James, 2 different vibes lot's of sweat equity. When Jessie said he get's goose bumps saying the word wheelie I could relate. The father on American Chopper strikes me as a guy that's just trying figure out his relationships with his son's because I read that he was not there much when they were younger, just look at how he treats Mike the youngest. He relates to him in a differnet way than Paul Jr but nonetheless he LOVES them and is proud of them. I think that sends a positive message. I just went to my HS 30 year reunion and talked to my best friend since I was 6 years old, he is a product of a father that was alot like Paul Sr and it was interesting to hear him say that he thought that Paul Jr should kick the sh*t out of the dad.
