I have a 1976 914 and the head light switch is bad does any one know where to buy one ? Has anyone ever taken one apart to try to fix it ?

Headlight switch = big bucks. Pelican has a tech article on repairing the headlight switch. Sometimes you can find one on evilbay that is cheap enough to be worth the risk of it not functioning correctly. That's what I did for my '74 when the dimmer quit working. I had no dash lights and commute in the dark in winter.

PP has a tech article....I would go that route.
