came in this car?

Would it be considered better of worse than a 914 tail shifter or side shifter?

Thanks,

My guess would be a 901. My '70 was retrofitted by the PO with a 915 out of a 911SC.

I was afraid of that. The 901 is not much better than 911 or 912 tranny I suppose as far as handling HP.

same internals, but it won't have the shifting troubles typical of a 914, because it has way shorter shiftrods

Versions of the 901 box were used in all 911s and 912s up through 69, and also in the 914s. Same box (practically), different shift setup, a few other different details. The 70-71 cars got the "911" transmission, which was more or less a 901 with a pull-type clutch. The 915 gearbox was introduced for the 1972 model year, and stuck around until 87, when the G50 came out.

why would they be?

the 1969 T engine is exactly the same engine used in the 914.6 ...
even the '69 S only made 170HP and 18,5 MKg torque (and that pretty high up in the rev band).
