I don't have the gearing charts in front of but the early Boxster 5 speed transmission is really close to the sideshifter (and tailshifter I would guess)
sideshifter= 90 lbs
Boxster 5 speed= 110 lbs (aluminum case instead of magnesium)
Any guesses as to what caused the gears to try to make thier way out of the transmission?
I highely doubt it was due to impact, more than likely someone downshifting or I think it could have been from someone dropping the clutch at 6K with the parking brake on......

the input shaft is much thicker, a Boxster or Audi clutch will have to be used

the output shafts are smaller than an early 911 CV, yet larger than a 914 CV

how do you all solve the problem with the mounting ears?
might be a good changeup from the 901/914..

Where are you going to put the starter? The boxster starter is mounted to the motor, and the 914 starter is mounted to the tranny bellhousing.

Mike,
We were comparing the two at my place after Dublin.
You can find a link to Boxster gears ratios on Ajracer's thread posted by Brett W.
Do you know there are two Boxster 5 versions?
Looks like you can fit an intermediate shaft and short bell housing relative to the driveshafts, given you can't move your engine...
The starter looks like the bigger challenge

that'll be easiest part

in the stock 914 location or possibly on the passanger side for slightly weight distribution (same as a 911, the starter is on the passanger side)

that I didn't know, but it does not surprise me, do you know offhand what the major difference is?

Ask the owner of Gwen's 3.6
One feature I notice is the "pocket" on top that you have on yours. Here's one without, like mine:

if you figure out how to mount it, etc.....
is there ANY downside ot using a boxster tranny?
seems like they would take more of a beating, right?

downsides?
cost* and that I don't see an easy solution right now that'll let your average person do the modifications without having plenty of tools
*initial cost of transmission, $500 to $1500+ and then the cost of the modifications if one has to pay to have it done
No idea on what kind of abuse it'll take.............

so would you have to cut and weld the 901 starter boss onto the boxster tranny.....
could you weld magnesium?
WOAH probably a bad idea welding magnesium....
white fireworks....
im also assuming the boxster tranny is magnesium, but from what i remember (and without looking) I think the tranny in question is aluminum.....
it's alot of work......
seems like the rewards would be great....
