I've run public mailing lists, and the only happiness I found in dealing with whiners was to ignore them. Let people do what they want (as long as it won't get me in legal hot water), and people on the list will vote with their feet. If they don't like it, they can ignore what they don't like, or lump it.
I hope Andy will adopt that attitude, and simply ignore anyone complaining furthur about the site. Live it alone, let it run. Add cool new features as and when he decides, but not a concern in the world for content...
I'm glad the site is back. I hope it stays that way. I hope everyone can keep from needling the people that keep it running.
