thanks for the vote of confidence but these are the grim facts:

i've never done a conversion.
i've never replaced a stock externally regulated alternator.
i last touched a 914/4 relay board in 1982.
the /6 relay board in my car has been under its rain cover for 25 years straight.
i have an interernally regulated alternator to update the '71 911 and i'm only 90% certain how to do that, even guided by Trekkor's thread with the photograph and diagram of the internally regulated alternator, in part because mine looks completely different.
mine is a Bosch-rebuilt Marchal that came in a Valeo box...

last time i looked at your thread, a few minutes ago, it looked like you had some good informatuon from Kerry and Dan.
