ok I am most likely going to do a front mounted tank. The big one... Here are are my questions...

Can I run AN-16 lines all around?

What thermostat should I run?

What inline oil filter should I run

What would be the running oil capacity? Assuming I am running a PMS style front mount tank...

How often do u have to change the oil when you have "that" much oil...lol?

I have seen a lot of guys mounting there inline oil filter in the front of the car, for instance Joe's 914 RS....Doesnt changing the oil and filter make a nasty mess of the front trunk? Why not mount the filter on the firewall, on the bottom directly underneath the fuse panel? So as to not create a mess? Is there some advantage to having it in the front? Other than the everything in one place mentality...

Stupid question...what method do people use to drain their oil, esp. when using a front tank? I have no clue as to whether or not 911 motors have drain plugs? Or do u just disconnect the lowest oil line possible?

Later down the road when I have more money, I intend to do some kind of purty front mount oil cooler setup, but right now, I just want to get the car driveable, as soon as I can, after getting home of course....just doing my research...BTW: I should be out of Iraq in less than a month... biggrin.gif Its been a long year...

PS: Do any racing bodies have anything against oil lines being ran through the interior of the car? Thinking of a possible alternative to save money by making my lines shorter...

Wow, -16 size lines. That's substantial.

As for running them through the passenger comaprtment? Many sanctioning bodies will balk at that. At the very least, you should build some form of "bulkhead" that prevents oil from spraying on the driver in teh event of an oil line failure (for whatever reason...).

The capacity you wont know until you fill it. and depends on the tank size.
you drain the tank and there is a drain plug on the 911 motor

I have a rear trunk mounted Peterson tank/filter no cooler ,
14-16 Qts.
I put it in the back , to be different screwy.gif plus I use the front trunk for everything, delivery vehicle/cafe racer

sixnotfor,

how many oil lines come off the engine?

One most setups I see two coming to the tanks...Is there only two lines?
sixnotfour
Basically yes there is only 2.
1. feeds the engine, (bottom of tank)
2. return from motor thru filter , cooler. (Top of tank)
The others are breather from top of motor , and the other would be breather for the tank , to puke bottle and or air cleaner.

and if jared wanted to add a cooler... that goes from the scavenge line from motor to thermostat to cooler and to tank. ?
sixnotfour
Yep , but is still only one line return to tank.
