My wife thinks I'm looney. I've ceated an online petition that will be submitted to the Discovery Channel, asking them to refrain from reformatting TopGear for US audiences. Please sign & pass the word to other automotive communities you participate in. Thanks!

Text of the petition:
QUOTE
To:  Discovery Channel

Discovery Channel Viewer Relations has indicated via direct personal correspondence that the Discovery Channel has undertaken to alter the program ‘TopGear’ from it’s original format in order to “revamp” the program for a U.S. audience.

The prospect of an ‘Americanized’ TopGear is cause for concern among North American fans drawn to this program specifically due to it’s distinct British style. TopGear, as broadcast in it’s original format, offers candid, informative, and entertaining content unique to any other automotive program. Reformatting TopGear risks losing its appeal to US fans disappointed with typical US-produced automotive programming.

The undersigned Discovery Channel viewers and fans of TopGear hereby formally request that the Discovery Channel rebroadcast TopGear to North American audiences in its original format, retaining the same hosts, automotive reviews, commentary, and other program components which are broadcast to UK audiences.

I just sent an email to most of my address book with a link. I love that show, and the last thing we car guys and gals need is another boring, dumb, waste of a TV show. Especially when it has to deal with cars. Sometimes I wanna ar15.gif some of the people that program TV nowadays. I guess it is just motivation to work on the family's various classic German aircooled cars.

most of the time I ignore most of these things, but I too like Top Gear and sent a letter. I must admit I did not look into the facts and accepted others comments as such.

Apparently, TOP GEAR IS HERE TO STAY, My return email

Thank you for contacting Discovery Channel. We appreciate you taking the
time to share your thoughts and concerns with us regarding “Top Gear.”
Your comments will be forwarded to our program management and executives
and will be taken into consideration.

The "Top Gear" show was not "taken off the air" but rather ran its pattern.
It is being revamped for a U.S. audience and will return later this year.
Look for it in December.
Crazyhippy
Notice at the bottom it says it is being re-vamped for the US audience.

Read this as being destroyed because too many people in the US are utter morons and can not understand the show as it is.

I have a feeling it will end up just like motorweek TV or the like barf.gif sad.gif mad.gif headbang.gif

So... we're up to 442 signatures so far. How many before you send it to Discovery Channel?

If you haven't signed, come on! If you know of a place to publicize it, post it anywhere you can think of Online Petition to Save Top Gear from Americanization!

At the very least, the hosts and producers of TopGear (UK), and the folks at Discovery Channel are going to know that some of us like the show the way it is.

December is over.. where's our neutered Top Gear? Fifth Gear over on speed just isn't an acceptable substitute.
