I dont want to take the HEs off if I don't have to....

I tried popping the sides, but that didnt work out?

remove the H/E????
are you on crack???
you should be able to use a screwdriver, a wrench etc.....to provide leverage to pull the wire down....try the middle of the cover....

listen....
look at what i said...
a wrench might work...not much space though....

No trick, just the normal proceedure.
Reach down from above with a thick flat-bladed screwdriver THROUGH the bailwire... Pry DOWNWARD and the bail wire should slide down to the bottom of the valve cover. Then stick your screwdriver tip into the little hole on the corner of the valve cover and pull away from the head. Tada! It's off.
PS: Listen to what Mueller said... no need to take the HEs off.

I know there is not much space....you need to figure out how to get the wire to lift up and over the protrutions of the valve cover in order to get the wire to swing down.....
a wrench "will" work if you pick the right size and angle....how sad to be out-smarted by a valve cover

You can always take a shop rag, loop it around the bail, grab both ends, & pull down.

i've used a claw hammer before as well....just make sure your head/face is out of the way when the wire finally comes loose
the handle works good for putting the wire back on.....

If the bails are installed upside down, and you can't believe how many I see that way, the cover won't come off without removing the bail. I insert a medium sized screwdriver from the bottom, and pry the bail out and down. Installation is the reverse. As you view the bail, it should dish upward from the pivot point. The Cap'n

anyway, all valves are adjusted....lost one pair of jeans and a mercedes shirt.....
Now i still have some tap tap noise, which i think is due to me being conservative with the valve adjust.....now on to carb fine tuning.
OH and apparently the head sucked in the gasket...it was wierd....and on the other side it moved pretty far over.....so there's my oil burning problem....
AA, my driver was simply, too big......
thanks guys!

You guys are funny. You should not ride him so much. hes a young guy learning to work on his car.
Back in my high school days my friend said he was going to change the oil in his Chevy. Stopped by a little later to check on his progress. Found that he had removed the oil pan still full of oil! I asked didnt you see the drain plug? He said what is a drain plug?
