Don't buy the black stuff. I bought some at the local VW place that sucks. It is slightly oversize and requires hose clamps. No writing on it, pretty sure it is not German. Should have looked around for the gray Continental hose that came on the car.

i have the shitty bugpack breather stuff. the hose is a rubber, and dried out and leaks even with hose clamps.
sirandy had a pic of his install with german braided schtuff

My local bug shop (source) has that stuff in smaller sizes. I cant imagine the place in corona not having it, but if they dont I can give Source a check.

Aaron,

He sells it in 1 meter lengths.
I bought the breather hose for my engine, and I think it was $35.00 for the piece.
Pretty cheap,and it look legit.

I don't have a VW parts supply around so went to the local German Auto Repair and got a full set of hoses (I had to cut to the correct length) for just under $30 and it was the good quality stuff.
A lot of the wanna be is not metric --- so the reason for clamps.
If you don't mind the high price AA might be a good source for the single hose??

Donsco in Belmont CA stocks all of the genuine German vacuum and fuel injection line.
13mm is most likely the size you are looking for, not 1/2".
http://www.donscofuncar.com/He caters to Beetles, but has it all right there on a coil. He tends to eyeball the lengths, but eres in the customer's favor and will send you more than you need.

It's 12mm ID. Pelican has it. I buy it local from the Euro FLAPS I used to work for back in the early 80's.
The Bird vacuum hose (scroll down to near the bottom).
