VW squarebacks/fastbacks and the 411/412 cars have auto trans. For anyone who wants an auto-trans in their 914, would this be an easy install? Seems like it would be, but has anyone any first hand experience? It should bolt right up, and be inexpensive. Anyone who would want/need an auto-914 probably wouldn't be thrashing it. I suspect that the Ring/pinion would need to be fliped, but is that very difficult? Here is a couple fotos from the Samba...

Very good question.Anyone???

It doesn't look like there's room to flip the ring gear. It needs quite a bit of space on the left side of the trans, and I just don't see it there. I seriously doubt you could run an automatic upside down. So that basically leaves you with the option of a custom cam so your engine goes backwards (or do a corvair swap).

Just because one can do a thing does not mean one should do a thing.....

There was a 914 on ebay with an Audi Automatic trans in it.
I do not know the details but there was a thread on it awhile back.
I think the thread also had the name of the shop in San Diego that did it.
