Yea, Andy is right. You want to run the lowest octane without pinging.
Remember, octane is exactly opposite of what you think (ie "high test"); the higher the octane the slower the burn and the more additives the fuel has. The additives in higher octane fuels can mean more carbon deposits in the combustion chamber. If you have to run high octane, then you should think about adding some Techron or BG fuel additive to help keep the combustion chamber clean.
