can someone point me to #1 on the cap, 1.8 litre 914. rite now it is on the battery side toward the front of the car. i know the fireing order but thats not much help without knowing where to start.

It SHOULD be marked on the dist. itself. There will be a little " | " groove in the metal. Take the cap off and look at the metal rim it sits on. There should be a notch or groove that SHOULD be where #1 is.

Something like this, the mark should be on the outside or pointing away from the engine block if things haven't been messed with.
