I was told that an old out of date harness can be re-webbed. I have a nice cam-loc 5 point dated nov 95. Is there anyone in the 914 collective that has done this or had it done?

wont be legal in most sanctioning bodies

If you were asking me at work I would tell you that it is 5 years out of date...

Simpson used to do it. Many of the manufacturers have stopped doing this.
Since you can pick up a new set for just $155 or less most folks don't bother anymore.

My first race car came with a very nice and expensive 6 point Teamtech harness. I sent it back to them to be re-webbed when it hit the 5 year mark. I don't recall how much it was, but it was a lot less than a similar new harness. I never had any problems with race tech because the dates are on the webbing, not the hardware. Since then I have only bought new harnesses when I got a different car or if the old ones expired.

Best thing to do is to call the manufacturer. They are the only one that will re-web a set of belts. I asked my local race shop not long ago and he said it was usually around $100. That plus shipping makes re-webbing a latch system not worth it. But with a cam lock system, like you have, it is worth it.
As for re webbed belts not being leagl…double check your GCR for regulations on belts. But since the service is offered, and it is the webbing that wears out, I don’t think your club will have a problem with the belts.

Autopower is in San Diego. They will re-sew their own belts. Don't know about others...

Hey Sean, just go over to Dave Turner Motorsports and get one to match the color of your car. I get mine there every two years.

I have these belts and have been very happy with them.

Given the cost of new cam-lock harnesses, I doubt it would be worth it to re-web an older set. They're so cheap nowadays, in some places going for as little as $100 or so.

That, and while your webbing may be new, your latch on the other hand will just be getting older. And a latch that doesn't work right makes any webbing pretty much useless...

Can you even -get- latch lock harnesses any more? biggrin.gif

I know, yes, you can. But why would you?
