a while ago someone posted a pic of a 914 stretch limo
IIRC it was an autoX action pic - the driver had a helmet on

could anyone post this pic again please?

do you know if there is such a conversion out there, or is it just a photoshop thing?

many thanks in advance

No kidding. I have a tub that someone can have for a limo project.

Aaron has a roller, so if someone had the space to do it, and a good welder, it could be done.

roller minus the rolling parts.... a tub or shell or body.....
TonyAKAVW
A tub is a roller without the parts that make it roll. So basically a suspensionless roller.

r_towle
Ill do it.

get enough people to get the car here...one trailer to the next...kinda like hot potato...cross country...

I can drive to ohio..

Get it from there, and I will build a 914 limo and bring it back out west under its own power.

Rich
r_towle
I would do it even if someone had a titled tub that has a good front half...I have all the rest. local would be easier.

think of it like a bath-tub, you can sit in it all day, but they usually don't move around much.

now, if the bath-tub had wheels ...

PS: here's an idea for the 914 nuts around here ...
how about a bath-tub on jackstands ??? happy11.gif

All i noted was that the fronts are 5-bolt and the rears are 4-bolt, haha.

I think a 914 limo would be awesome. If I knew how to do p-shop I'd clean that pic up and make it look more real....but i don't.
Aaron Cox
the doors are the hard part. look at the above pics... thats impossible to do. it needs to be way longer to allow a second set of a pillars to be in place
r_towle
nope, chop the door at the front of the glass, straight down...suicide hinge it...

Cut the front car just behind the targa bar, cut the second car just behind the a pillar.

Use the second cars b pillar for the front of the doors to latch against...swap the doors side for side...

I went out and took a look at my tub and some extra door I have...it could be done and it could look cool.

Personally I would eliminate the targa bar in between them, or make it alot thinner...maybe the thickness of the top of the bar, all they way down the side...make it look less bulky..

I think it could be made to look cool, if done with style in mind...

make the partition window electric, so you can raise and lower it...

two removable targa tops...a custom trunk bay to hold them both...

nope, they don't ...

as i said in the other thread, i've got blueprints ...
the doors can be that close together. and if you don't need to be able to close the top, you won't need that ugly hump in the middle.
the idea was to use two stock targa tops and be able to fully close the car, top, windows and all ...

but, if you were to make a always open car, that could be made to look much better.
i would, however, still add a beefy rollbar behind the driver ...

that's a roller. as in, let's put some trailing arms and wheels on there so we can *roll* it around the shop.

who cares if it's 4-bolt as long as it turns ???
confused24.gif Andy

PS: the two pictures are of the same car, btw. a original /6. and yes, we had 4-bolts rollers on in the rear while it was at the shop ...

I think if you could do an ultralong (and probably heavier guage steel) version of the Engman kit, and then have cross bracing under the florpan, you could probably end up with a strong enough tub.

It would take a serious type IV to power a limo... Also a big alternator for the plasma screens, fridge, etc.

-Tony

and an other one ...

r_towle
Gustl,

ok, a classic porsche design, no leg room in the back...

Im thinking caddilac size leg room in the back...you know...back seat that is like a bed.

Speak no-more... lol2

The Bathtub Buggy was featured at the World's Fair in Osaka, Japan. Customizer George Barris built it in the 1960's, when "kinky" hot rods were popular. The body is made of twin bth tubs painted pearlescent white. The are mounted on a hand-made frame. The Chrysler hemi V8 has dual GMC blowers and Hilborn injectors. The interior is trimeed in green and gold with brass acents and the wheels are gold-dipped.
TonyAKAVW
I think you need to have a bench seat in the back and maybe a single seat facing backwards behind the driver's seat. Also have to divide the cabins with a window. To be a proper limousine, it cant just be a 4 or 6 seater 914....

It needs at least a TV and a fridge.

Now, if its a limo, and the engine is in the stock location, is it still mid-engine?

One other issue is that if you use a water cooled engine, or an oil cooled engine (large 4 or 6), then you'll have some very long lines running up front. Unless of course you do an engine bay mounted radiator and a Subaru engine biggrin.gif

you cant just have a square front edge on your rear door.... that'd be fugly

make it longer smile.gif

that way, you can make it a real limo!

one giant FG top is how i see it smile.gif make it one long sloping cuve......

this middle targa bar sucks....
Aaron Cox
pardon my crappy drawing....

but i think a 20 foot 914 would need some serious reinforcement no?

like engman/mayeur kits on steroids and a huge sandrail style subframe....

how's this? i even added tint wink.gif

I like Daniel's "short" rear door. I'd probably do it with only front doors, fixed rear windows and fixed rear roof (maybe fully fixed roof for strength).

Yep now we are talkin...Now add about 3-4 feet in length so that 2 sets of seats can fit in the rear compartment, with the middle pair of seats facing the rear right behind the front cabin. 914 seats in the front cabin and custom couch-type bench seating in the rear

Andys idea of a targa only over the chauffers cabin with a fixed roof over the rear portion has a lot of merits and does not detract from the concept at all.
Aaron Cox
oh gawd...

think about clutch cables, speedo cables, throttle cables, shift rod.... lengthened wireing harness....

yup. we can do this.

all in a days work at Joe SHarps tongue.gif
SirAndy
alright, steel roof, possibly with a electric sunroof in the rear.

the rear should have just one wide seat and some "entertainment" stuff towards the front (bar, TV etc.)

OR

two wide seats, facing each other, could seat up to 6 people in the back.

keep the glas between driver and back ...

smilie_pokal.gif Andy

there are some really good ideas user posted image

and I agree ... all these inforcements, more steel and whatever else causes significant more weight ... so the only engine that would fit perfectly is the 908 laugh.gif

nice project

wavey.gif Gustl

dlo914
improved...
Andyrew
I also agree on the 908, a 3.6 would be good too.. But the hp might twist the chassis more readily

a 2.2 would possibly be better because of the tq...

What could be done to stiffen the chassis? I was thinking a hidden roll cage.. and some sheet metal joining.... boxed long with extra reinforcment..

anyone else got an idea?

I say it could be DONE in a month... and a month of planning..

Who's gona do it?
SirAndy
steel roof, tinted windows, darker vinyl ...

btw. i think one large targa roof will be utterly unpracticle. no place to put it, so why have one in the first place ???
confused24.gif Andy
dlo914
how about adding a hot tub in the rear? lol2.gif it gets the chicks as you can see drooley.gif
r_towle
I think it would be key to design it with two removable targas that appear as one, with a nice smooth line...but you can still remove them to get the open top feel.

If I can find a tub here that is rotted in the hell hol beyond repair, I have another...

I may just do this for fun...

No question a 1.7 motor...or maybe two of them...

The rear interior would have to be totally custom,,,really plush, tv, dvd, all the toys.

The frame, could be long box channel that is cut to size and made to fit so when you are done, you cant tell the re-inforcment is there.

Cables are easy.
Shifter rod would need to be a good cable setup.

Im game, just need another tub.

Rich
Andyrew
Hey... take it to "pimp my ride"

They'll hook us up!! biggrin.gif

Just tell em we'll do the chassis fabrication... to avoid it breaking by their ehem.. skill..
Aaron Cox
arc the roof.....

make it 2 targas... whatver... just needs to have a sloped roof........

im down with the 4 seater.... or maybe 5 (bench seat in the back?)

the goal is to use ALL 914 spare parts with limited custom stuffs.....
