I am getting ready to put my 1.7 back together. I can't seem to find piston rings for 90mm bore. Are the vw rings the same? Is it ok to clean the rings that are there break the glaze on the cyl. and reuse? will they reseat?

Thank's, I happened to find them @perf. prod. as well. they were about $12 cheaper than Deves.

What can I look for on the old rings to tell if they are still usable or not?

i think you can tell if they're good or not by measuring the gap in the ring???

If you want to reuse them, go ahead. There is really nothing to look for other than to stick them in the bore and measure the end gap.

Remember, if you do replace rings you have to hone the cylinders.

The specifications will be given in the manual........

You should also check the side clearance in the ring land.
