Just ordered them from Tire Rack 205 50 15. Gonna put them on some 6 inch Panasports. Time to check and adjust ride height then off for corner balance and alignment ( 2 1/2 years since the last one).

Getting near time to kill some cones.

Good friend of mine ran them on his '74 Carrera RS last season and they did very well. Lasted the entire season of over 15 AXs.
He liked them and was considering getting them again this year.
He always finishes in the top 10 of 100+ car fields. And overall finished first in our Zone Performance index against all cars and set ups.
This is in a street, driven to and from the events, car.

Heat cycling is an extra $15 per tire.

I have two sets of Panasports, one with old dry R3S03s i think.

I'm looking for an autox set of tires, so the R3S04s are out because they won't have time to heat up for autox on such a light car.

Any other clearance sales coming up that anyone knows about? Should I go with the Avons or Yokos? I have a set of street wheels/tires i can drive to and from events with.

My sense is that good freind of yours could have run well with any tire on his car. But the Avons certainly didnt detract from his fast times. I always make sure I'm in opposite run group from him just to watch his lines on a given AX course.

I'm sure it's gonna take a while for my driving skills to catch up to my tires so any tire would probably have been OK. We'll see.

I know a few people who have tried the Avon's last year.

The short of it was this: They have similar construction to the Hoosier (no surprise there), but the tread compound is not as soft, and takes more to heat up.

They give up grip compared to the Hoosier and Kumho, but are comprable to the Toyo and better than the Yokohamas.

A good track tire for DE's and TT's. Not so good for autox (if you're trying for TTOD), but pretty good for enduros...

Still, they'll be a good deal better than any street tire, that's for sure...

I seem to remember Dave stating here publicly that his car weighs 2102 lbs.........like any smart fella would do. Mine weighs 2040lbs.....as I've repeated....ah....repeatedly.

You prolly could have made a better choice for cone killing, but that woulda cost you $$$$ and as Chris said, they'll knock your socks off nohow. I have found that 914s are very easy on tires so you'll get plenty of enjoyment out of them.

the rules up here for pca would kill you joe. for running at bremerton...gtu a 2.0/4 is the same as a 2.0/6, gto over i think 2.5, stock. portland...what was it improved or stock. if they ask you weight, you just say 190# last time i stepped on the scale.

you are correct. If you move your battery or have carbs you are up against some very fast cars in PCA. Bremerton Sportscar Club is much more forgiving!

I dont think you can even have 50 series tyres on a 914 in the stock class....
