traceroute?
Part Pricer

On Mac OS X, if you would rather not open a terminal and use the command line, a GUI front-end for traceroute (and several other utilities) called Network Utility can be found in the Utilities folder within the Applications folder. Run it, click the “Traceroute” tab, and enter an address to run a trace to.

traceroute?

oh, that's right, you got one of those "oh so user-friendly" Mac's ... biggrin.gif

dunno if there's a traceroute utility for the mac, old ones didn't have it, maybe OSX does ...

a traceroute utility lets you view the route between your computer and any other computer. it tells you all the routers (hops) and how fast they responded.
those response times tell you if and where there is a "bottleneck" between you and the machine you're trying to reach.

here's a sample traceroute to www.google.com from my computer at work:

=============================================
Tracing route to www.l.google.com [66.102.7.99]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 16 ms 29 ms 35 ms 172.16.119.65
2 58 ms 54 ms 50 ms r1.ca.rwc.bsr.nextweb.net [209.172.111.229]
3 32 ms 30 ms 31 ms r1.ca.pao.bsr.nextweb.net [64.186.170.165]
4 65 ms 29 ms 21 ms r1.ca.paix.cr2.nextweb.net [209.172.123.1]

show us the last couple of entries before you get the "*" ...

"*" means timeout, meaning the router/computer did not respond at all, which could very well be your problem.
a burnt up router inbetween you and mac.com is all you need to be cut off ...

It looks like a router crapped out. Log a call with your ISP.

border1.pc0-0-bbnet1.sje.pnap.net (66.151.144.4) is the last router to respond, after that is silence.

call your ISP and let them know the results of your traceroute. they'll be able to help ...
