Joe.. you may have a hard time finding one.. most of the time we turn them in as a core when buying a new one.
You can buy a rebuilt starter at ANY auto parts store near you.
Tell them you have a 68 type3 VW Fastback with a automatic.
Or tell them you have a 1973 VW bus 1.7.
The starters are cheap.

Anyone using the "high- torque" starters?
And who has them the cheapest?

Pick up a Hot VW's issue and thumb thru it. You can find them for 179.00-189.00$. We use them on the V8 conversion cars.

Denied. Wrong starter. Our starters are NOT supported on one end like the Bug starter. Our starters are SR17X. Which was used in all the automatic VW's and 90% of the later buses.
Nice try. Thanks for playing.
Alex, can I have the next contestant.
Just busting your balls for no apparent reason.

Is there a difference in the direction they spin?
'Cause their mounted 180 degrees from a VW?
Am I right?

No direction change. Doesnt matter where the engine is mounted... the engine still spins the same way.

I picked up a 68 911 starter from the local German auto wreckers here in Boring for $25. Works great & ended my hot start problem.
