Results from the Southern Contingent gathering yielded some interesting things....
I bought these carbs from a guy in Germany who sold them on the Bay to me. The ad stated these where from his 914 that he had owned since new. The car was long gone but he ran across the carbs in his attic.
Well the test mule fired up after Clay schooled me on valve adjustments. No smoke , no knock, no BIG oil leaks, couple of small exhaust leaks.
So experts....are these in fact FACTORY 914 Porsche carbs?

They maybe installed backwards too? Linkage just dont look right.

I did not get the airbox but I'm willing to bet it looks like a bus airbox?

kinda yeah, it has two carb sockets off to the left and right of the airbox, and the box sits in the middle.

Congratualtions! You now have a 72 Bus motor! Wait until the carbs have about 5 miles on them and the throttle plates are worn out. No, you can't buy them any more. They all sold out when the Busses were a few months out of warranty. I can probably supply an air filter assembly. The Cap'n

So Cap (yoda)...these are just bus carbs? Runs pretty damn good, ported heads, 1.8L, need to swap the dizzy for the factory unit.
My oil cooler was a power steering cooler zip tied to a fan !

kinda sounds like it's one and same.....I'm guessing from what the Cap'n says, the 1.8 Euro used the same setup as on the US Buses.....

Those are just standard 36 PDSIT bus carbs...but that doesn't mean he ripped you as I think that's all that was on the euro 1.8.

There were 2 different airboxes on the bus, one uses short manifolds and the other tall, so try to get all the bits. I'd try to get a few spare sets at a VW swap meet for parts.
You can get rebuild kits for them...but after you toss the junk float valves you have a couple of $20 (each side) paper gaskets. In the past I've made my own bushings.

I've had mixed success rebuilding them, some times they work like gold...other times I've gotten the shaft.

Well I didn't pay but 57 bucks for em' including shipping.
They run good, dont leak, idle and I like em.
Still wanna try that FI system on the mule yet.
