I did a search but didn't come up with that many. I'm looking for pics of T4 engines that have been redone and polished up.

I'm in the process of building my megasquirt system for my 914 and I just got my 2.0 injection parts in the mail on Friday. Yesterday I cleaned everything up. My friend has a parts washer and sand blasting cabinet so I cleaned and sand blasted the intake runners, injectors clamps and fuel rail.

Now everything is down to bare metal. The intake runners look like the lower part is cast and the tubes are mild steel. Obviously I dont' want anything to corrode, so what needs to be done? Is the lower cast portion safe as is?

Help me by posting pics of your intake side and color scheme, what paint you used, how it has survived long term.

My options:

Polish and Clear coat bare metal (which to use?)
High temp engine spray paint (least favorite)
Power coat (which powder?)

Thanks!

POR-15 makes some engine enamel that is absolutely indestructable. comes in several colors.

Wow... VERY clean job. Excellent wiring habits.

Which powder did you use?

Where did you find new injector harnesses?

Where did you get the runner couplers from? Hardware store? They don't need clamps?

Hi Garry,

I like how you skipped the staining problem with the aluminum fan housing and painted it black, but then painted the steel cooling tin to almost look like aluminum.

Nicely done. Do you see any performance enhancement from the Megasquirt? Or is it more an issue of driveability?

I had a local outfit (Arizona Powder Coating) do all the work, so I'm not sure.

I bought the connectors off ebay, they're just a standard L-Jet connector (I think) that I modified with the clip you can see for a positive connection to the D-Jet injector. The boots are standard Bosch that I found at NAPA. Built the rest of the harness from scratch.

Since the 1.7/1.8 runner boots are not available, I used 1-3/8" Gates straight radiator hose from NAPA. It's a tight fit, so I'm not using clamps... for now.

Here is mine after it was rebuilt. I used heavy industrial enamel but if I did again I would powder coat. Seemed to hold up for over a year but I don't know how long it will actually last.

The car was originally silver, so I cleaned up the engine compartment and rattle canned it silver again, and powder coated the tin to match as close as possible. It was all black in there, and the improvement in visibility is amazing!

Man... you had to ask... Actually, so far I'm very pleased with the MS setup. I have some sensor issues I'm still sorting out - the head temp sensor I'm using as the MS coolant temp sensor keeps dropping out. Need to replace it to see it that helps. Haven't had time to work on it recently - real life intruding again - but will hopefully get it sorted soon. I went to MS cuz I was fed-up with dinking with the Webers all the time. Now, one turn of the key and it starts every time, nice smooth idle, it'll be good one of these days when I get it tuned properly...

I'm a little confused... you used an L-jet connector on a D-jet injector? Do you have close up pics of this mod?

I'll be sure to pickup some 1 3/8" hose at the local store. I got hold of some thick walled 1 1/2" i was going to use but its too big. 1 3/8" should be perfect.

Thanks!

Tuning MS is 1/2 the project, i'm about a month or two away from that. biggrin.gif

depends...can "you" do the powdercoating? (do you have a kit and oven?)

if not, are you willing to pay for it??? (figure a few hundered bucks to powdercoat entire engine accessories)

if too much money, then paint is your solution by default...

only negative thing I've heard about paint is that if you use a lot of solvents to clean your engine, the shine of the paint can suffer and then the paint itself after awhile....

I have 3-4 sets of engine tin already powdercoated, most of it is gloss black...
After this month all my 914 engines will come standard with my DTM, so I won't be needing this stuff any longer!

I bought a kit from columbia coatings a while ago. I have a toaster Oven, i experimented with it in the past. Works well.

But I can't fit the intake runners or plenum in a toaster oven. smash.gif

Any idea where I can find a cheap 110V oven? Does anyone in my area (NY, NJ, CT) have an oven dedicated to powder coating?

Thanks

you should be able to get an oven for free or dirt cheap from someone doing a remodel.....I got mine for $15...of course it's a 220v...you can try IR propane heater, a few people have done that method here before for larger items

Powdercoated engine tin...engine case and fan housing are "natural". This was done over 20 years ago- still looks great. Cleaning solvents don't affect the powdercoating. Powder coating is the way to go.

Ray... very clean job, very impressive!

Where did you get those red runner couplers? 1 3/8" ?

I can't find that large cast iron part on top of your engine, Pelican doesn't seem to sell it. Was that a factory option?

smiley_notworthy.gif Can't wait to see your intake.

Those are silicone hoses off of a Detroit S60 diesel truck engine.
They fit very well.
I can dig up the Detroit part # if you want.
They can be purchased at any Freightliner dealer.
