What is the maximum backspace for wheels front and rear on a '73? I figured I'd ask before measuring myself, 'cause I am sure many know it off the top of their head.

5 inches is a safe number. I run 5 3/8 up front, but that is with a tire that doesn't stick out past the wheel.

Yeah, about 5" inches is the most backspace you can get on the rear. A little more in front. But also that's with tires that don't stick out past the rim much. I run 15x8's with 225/45-15's and they fit (massaged the rear outer fenders)...
