Full Version: Crank Timing Gear Question

Dave Bell
Got gears pulled off the crank before sending out to Demello for new stroker....

Anyhow... other local machine shop that pulled the gears gave them back with some scoring of inner surface. Worst of it is shown on a close up photo below of the cam timing gear.

Can anybody familiar with this tell me if I need to
A- toss out the gear and go for a better example, $100 for new and $50 for used ... avoid that if possible.
B- Clean up the rash in some TBD method and just put it back on the new crank?

What I don't want to do is
1) get the thing half way back on and find out I am stuck because of the rash or parts of it I did not clean up right... or
2) get the thing on but have it start to walk up and down a bit and possibly strip itself loose because of some mechanical interaction that is obvious to those that have seen this 100 times before.

They galled the metal when they pulled it off...you could take crocus cloth and clean it up, but it would be way simpler to get another gear.

I'll see if I have the correct puller to get one for you.
