I am putting a 2.0L exhaust on my 1.7L 914 and i was wondering do i buy the 2.0L cylinder head gasket or the 1.7L cylinder head gasket.

the copper ones--I think they are all the same.

get a dab of grease or something to get those damn things to stay, and heat each copper gasket REAL hot and quickly throw it in some water, that'll soften it up some (opposite effect with steel)

softer copper = better seal.

I had to buy some pick things to get the old ones to come out....but i think they all finally came out.

The 2.0L and 1.7L have different part numbers that why i thought they were dirrerent are you sure that they are the same?

is that necessary? never heard of that....

The exhaust gaskets go with the heads. You have 1.7 heads, so use the 1.7 exhaust gaskets.

You can anneal the copper to soften it up, but you do not have to. It is a way to re-use old copper exhaust gaskets, supposedly.

Actually, the ID of the 1.7 gaskets is smaller than that of the 2 litre ones. That makes the sealing surface slightly wider, but the 2.0 pipes have thinner walls, so some of the gasket overhangs the pipe. Since the head covers this part of the gasket, it won't make any difference which one you use. That said, I'd use the 1.7 gasket. The Cap'n

i got it....

Do your homework on anealing copper. You'll see. It does soften the gaskets.

I have re-anealed many sets of *used* copper gaskets. They do soften up and seal better. Given my experience, I'd probably aneal new gaskets also. But I've never bought a new set.

I use copper RTV to hold the rings in place till the stub pipes cinch down.

When putting 2.0L SSI on make sure that the sealing surfaces are clean and straight and even with each other. not all cockeyed. You can do this with a BIG flat file.

I hated wrestling 2.0L SSI's not to mention making a deal with the devil when torqueing down the NEW nuts.
