I read this magazine from time to time. While I like the cars, they focus way too much on the values of cars, and not the driving experience or the technical aspects of owning one.
The had an awesome looking MG Airline Coupe in the last month's issue.

Okay, so I can't read the text worth a darn. However... I did make out one line. The fourth page of the article, under "electrical". Y'all see the name? Yup, Dave Darling is quoted in Hemmings magazine. Dave, you made the big time!!

Hey Mueller,
Your on my

list. Trunk Racks are beautiful & add value to a 914.

BTW
I left mine on because it had (20) plus holes to fill when I restored my car. Easier to leave it on. It grows on you.

Has anyone followed the market trend when cars are featured and how the value has gone up or down or remain flat???

Hey Mueller,
When you change your kids diapers on the trunk, they don't roll off on the ground. Or trunk racks support hauling a case of beer or wine & cheese baskets. There now

I've subscribed to this magazine since day 1 and I highly recommend it. It's like Road and Track used to be, back when Road and Track was really good (uh oh, now I'm dating myself). The photos alone are worth the price. Anybody who thinks it's all about value and not the ownership or driving experience should look at it again. They give as much props to affordable cars as exotic ones.

I disagree with your analysis of the magazine. Every issue that I have (and its only like three or four) has auction sales results in them. And I am not talking about a 1/4 page, but several pages of them.
I understand that old cars have value, but I don't really want to read about the values as the primary focus of the magazine. I prefer the how-to stuff, history and driving experience.
If you look at the previous issue, the one with the MG Airline Coupe and the old Morgan Trike, there are several pages of auctions and auction results.
As such, I generally prefer Classic Motorsport (the offshoot from GRM) as they pay little attention to the auction scene.
This is a Hemmings magazine, so I guess I should not be surprised in the coverage.
You are correct that the photography is very good. However, last issue there was a Ghia bodied Chrysler (IIRC) and the pictures for that were horrid. They did not provide a good front or side shot of the car at all.
My favorite magazine is Retro Cars. It's a Brit mag, and impossibly hard to find here on a regular basis. I am working with a newstand now to see if they can get it. Subscription rates for UK mags are crazy with the exchange rates.

Thomas - can you please post a better picture of the decal in your back window.
I had one like that on my 1st 914 but I forget exactly what it says.

914 values are on the rise. $29000 for a 6 conversion. 4 cylinder cars selling for $5500-10000. 914-6's are selling at $18,000-23,000.
I have found that more and more people are wanting nice 914s whether it is a 6 or 4 for big engine conversion. Can you say 3.0, 3.2 to 3.6. People are willing to pay the price for a good clean car. And then make it the car they want.

I still say give the magazine another chance and read the whole thing. You want how-tos and history? A recent issue of Hemmings S&EC had an article on how to do your own case-hardening, another had a history of the origin of Citroen. There's almost always an article on the development of some long-forgotten concept car...geeky stuff, yeah, but definitely well-rounded coverage. Auction values are a logical thing to cover when it comes to old cars, but they don't dominate the magazine.

Holy crap--that article made it to press in very little time!! Wayne asked me to "fact check" it, and I had a brief correspondance with the editor (or author?) about it. I mentioned the Club--and went on about it for a while, too! I can't tell from the scans if there is any mention of it or not, but I'm happy that they mentioned Bowlsby's harnesses!!

I gotta go get me a copy of this!
Is there an Arizona connection to Hemmings? I saw the last issue on the rack at the local B&N. It caught my eye because of the Studebaker on the cover. My grandfather had a Studebaker of about the same vintage & model that I wish was still in the family, but it's long gone. I noticed that the cover car was also an AZ car, as is this 914.

I've also seen that sticker on multiple 911s that were 1974 models. I think Porsche might have provided them for all cars produced that year. And if it came on 914s, it would further show that the factory considers "us" full-fledged p-cars, so all the NARP wankers can just sod off
