I was by my local Saab/Saturn dealer today and saw the new Sky. I didn't even know they were coming out with this model but it really caught my attention. I didn't have time to check it out closely though. Anybody know anything about it? Price?
SoCal Driver
you can get pricing and everything on saturns website.

Also like the looks. It was in the most recent copy of Car and Driver, along with the other 2006 newcomers. I dont think it got their stamp of approval though.

bootyshake.gif Butt ugly IMO.

I think it's funny that an econo-manufacturer is making a roadster. I guess to compete with other makes. Honda's trucks are equally hilarious. And did you know Daewoo makes TVs?

Jen

Mitsubishi makes TV's as well, and Toyota makes Forklifts. Honda makes lawnmowers and boat engines.

The saturn sky is the same as the Solstice. I think the Sky looks better than that fugly solstice. Too bad they weigh 2800lbs. That's some lard ass roadster.

New Miata is still 2400lbs.

While the new Mazda MX5 loses on styling points, it kicks Sky butt from an engineering standpoint. Crawl underneath a new MX5 and you will be amazed at the engineering and quality you get for $20K. In my opinion some of the Mazda engineering that went into the new MX5 rivals Porsche.

laugh.gif - It's really sad to watch GM now a days they are really reaching to try and make SOMETHING work, but it's hard to think of success coming from the products they are producing. Some of it is just plain ugly crap. There is no incentive for someone to buy an ugly, big, unreliable car when they can go out and buy a honda, toyota, or especially a VW now a days. The other products are just to good for GM to succeed against with there current line up. The new jetta Value edition bases at $17,000 and the GTi for $23,000 and they are both a hell of a lot more car than gm stuff at the same price point. Products like the sky and the solistice seem to me like a long shot attempt to try and come up with something that will turn a couple of dollars. Wonder gm will get a clue, it's really sad to watch american manufactures that were once so great fall apart.

When were American Manufactures Great? I sold them for 12 years back in the 60ties and they were never Great. Big yes fast yes but not great. those cars wouldnt last 60,000 miles without major work. They build a much better car now than they ever did in the past. Its just some other countries have improved faster. Remember the 1970 toyota corona now that was a bad car.

I guess great depends upon one's definition of the word, just seems that in todays market GM is producing products that can't compete very well. There are just to many other good products out there. I've looked into this car a little and was not very impressed, it's a nice try but seems like a long shot from a manufacture that is not doing very well in my opinion.

Sorry.... I have to agree.

My ROOTS are classic GM muscle cars.... and I'll always love them.... but as far as newer cars...... I'll never buy another American car again... ever.

My #1 problem isn't reliability, gas mileage, or even styling (although they all usually suck)...... it's one reason only.... RESALE VALUE.

For that reason..... All newer American cars... not just GM either. Dodge/Chrysler, GM, Ford.....

In late 1996.... my ex-wife and I bought a BRAND new, 1997 Dodge Avenger ES, fully loaded, leather, sunroof, 17s, etc...... $22,500.

Traded it in 11 months later...... for $12,500. That was the best I could do... I tried to sell privately.. no one wanted it.

Honda and Toyota have the best resale values....... Subaru and VW are close behind...... but I really like the cars (which is why I just bought the WRX)... so I took that into consideration.

If I had to go with a modern roadster..... I'd have to pick the Honda S2000... I really like those, reliability is great, resale is great... and they are REALLY attractive cars.

I like it, but what do I know. Will be sold in EU as an Opel, trying to cash in on that name. Will come with a 2.0 four, or turbo version with ~260bhp. I wish GM would do a better job raiding the parts bin here, but could say the same for Porsche on their 'less than' 911's.

I like the Sky, and I like the Solstice. I went and crawled under a Solstice at Thanksgiving, they are nice cars and the price is amazing. It's a $20k car. Pontiac has introduced a 240 hp version of the Solstice, so hopefuly, Saturn will do the same driving.gif
nomore9one4
Both cars are very nice. I wanted to buy a Solstice when they first came out. My wife did not want me to buy one.Guess who won? mad.gif

I also like the Sky. A friend of mine (porsche guy) sells Saturns and when they get one in we are going on a test drive. They are going to be making a turbo option available later. I think my friend said the red line engine will be used but I could be mistaken.

I like the sky... to me it looks kinda like an opel...

Nice Opel Speedster. Too bad GM didn't bring that one over. The demise of the Toyota MR-2 Spyder pretty much killed off affordable new mid-engine cars in the US.
