The temperature guage needle on my 73 2.0 .....even on the hotest days will never go much above the first line on the face no matter how long the car is running....Any ideas ?

current opinions about temp gauge is that it is not all that precise. you could calibrate the gauge if you need better info.

Mine does the same thing and I found out that there are different sending units. The assumption is that I have the wrong one. My car is a 72 so the gauges and taco plate and sender have been added. Not a big enough deal to worry about right now. I figure if I can smell it it's too hot. Otherwise just drive it.

Either ignore it, rip it out and ignore it, or buy a VDO one with real live numbers and correct snder and ignore that too....

I use a hand held pyrometer after a good hard run and shoot the oil dipstick and the heads and check temp....you'll know when you are over heating...you'll smell the oil heating up.
