After 3 years of collecting parts (and $$$) I am ready to start the body work for my 914-6 conversion. I plan to run 9”x17” 255 stock 993 wheels on the rear with either custom flares or SC flares. My question for the experts is this, will I have to run spacers to keep the tires from rubbing on the inside and how much will the fender have to come out to have enough room for the tires. Searched posts but could not find info.

what offset or et?? more than likey spacers in the 35-54mm range.

et 52??
Mueller
those rims should have a 55mm or 65mm offset I think....you'll need at least 2" spacers

They are 55 offset...any idea how much the fenders will have to come out?

I am running 17x7's with 205's under stock fenders(35mm offset), I have about 3/8" between the tire and the fender, and about 3/8" to 1/2" between the tire and the trunk wall....so, I'd say at a minimum, you'll need to come out 2"

If they are late offset, most likely 1 inch up front and 2 in the rear.

If you haven't bought them yet....I have a set of spacers and 16x7.5 and 16x9 964 wheels and tires just sitting.....new Kumhos. Whels are pwoder coated semi-flat black.

fenders would have to come out 2+ inches.

consider that a 7in rim can fit barely in stock fenders. a 9in rim would need 2 more inches.

Greetings:

Let me see if I can help you on this one; from memory. My 1974 has the
following five bolt components.

Fronts 17" X 7" ROH rims with 205/50/17 tires AND 1" spacers
(I believe there is actually room for bigger tires, no flares; BUT
used a 944 front hub)

Rears 17" X 8.5" ROH rims with 255/50/17 tires
AND 1" spacers AND 9" GT Flares.
(This is a tight fit, 0.25" inside/outside for clearance.)

These Rims were from later 911/993 which are 55mm offsets

From my experience be EXACT on what size spacers are needed before
you purchase any BECAUSE I calculated and bought a large 2" plus on
the rear before I realized a much smaller would do the job. I idea in my
mind is to get the minimum clearance on the inside and then work your
way outside to determine what size tires flare combination will work
the best. Trust this helps.

PS These spacers I believe were actaully 28mm
The above wheels were my set-up ones but from here I will be
moving to better sizes and profile to particiate in some AX or solo
events.

Allan, without the backspace or offset numbers for your rims, those specs get kinda lost.....

I am running 996 wheels 9x17 on the rear with 255x40x17 Toyo R1A , I am running Fiberglass GT flares.... the outside spacing is close with 2 inch spacers 1 3/4 spacers would work better if you could find them.
