My driver door doesn't open from the outside and I've been told that most likely the plastic cam is broken. I checked the tangs on the flapper and they are not broken. I've done a search here but can't find a replacement thread for the cam. Is there a thread and could somebody point me to it? If not, can someone explain the process?
Thanks,
Kevin

after replacing my handle, it still feels locked... i mean bound up really tight!
i have lubed everything and, without the handle, the latch mechanism works easily.
the handle also moves without obstruction when not installed...
anyone have insight?

It depends what you repaired/replaced. If you had to replace the flapper, I assume you replaced the rivet with a bolt. If so, I have seen the bolts bind against the body if they are a hair too long, or if the nut sticks out too far.
It is tough to say without feeling the problem.
(I used to try that line on my dates too.

When the door is closed the handle is hard to release?
But when the door is open the handle is easy to release?
Sounds like the post in the door jamb needs to be adjusted.

BTW, NEVER force the handle. If the flapper breaks....you're screwed.

I just picked up a door handle but it feels like it hungs up on something during the travel of the plastic slider . it looks almost NOS is it possible the slider just needs to wear a bit for it to be a smooth movement ..
oh and my pass side door does that same thing that the handle it self is smooth and no broken parts but when on the car it is hard to get the door to open ... I figured it was the little peice inside the door that the slider pushes needed lube but it didn't seem to do much...

Answer these questions:
1. Is the handle on the door yet?
If no, I would install it and see how it functions.
If yes, I would clean up the actual latch mechanism to get the gunk off of it so it works freely.
2. Does the handle have the old/original slider on it or a new black one?
If it is a new black one, they are not as strong and I've seen them bend (but not break). The slider actually moves only about 1/2" to release the latch and it shouldn't be getting hung up on anything.

Once again, clean up the latch parts. Also did you take the doors off for any reason? Because this may have messed up the door alinement with the door post that is in the door jamb. You can adjust the post by loosing the phillips head screws.
Let me know.
