Hi all,

One of the arms on my door flapper is broken, so I'm planning to replace it. How exactly do you do it? It looks like the flapper is riveted on to the handle. So, do I just drill out the old rivets and... what? They look like pretty big rivets. Can I find something like that? Will something else work? How is this done?

Thanks in advance,
Joe Ricard
Just send it to Paul. URY914

Paul, I had a look at your blog, but I didn't see anything on replacing the flapper. Removal looks pretty easy, but what about installation? Or perhaps I'm blind, and you covered it in your blog... confused24.gif

He wants to repair it. or you buy the plastic "U" like thingy and do it your self.

I've already got new plastic cams. I need the flapper, as the arm is broken off one. And I can get a good flapper, I just need to know how best to install it. It seems like it should be pretty simple, and I don't really want to send it to someone to get it done. Just looking for a little guidance.

No problem. biggrin.gif

You'll need to grind/file the head of the pin off. If your flapper is already broken you don't need to be so careful. Drive the pin out and make sure that spring doesn't fly across the room. When you reinstall the pin in the handle make sure you are putting it back in from the "top" of the handle. This way the pin won't work its way out of the handle. BTW, getting the spring/flapper/pin all back together is the by far the biggest part of the job.

Also, a right flapper will not work on a left handle.

Good luck, PM me if you need to.

Paul

My tombstone will read...

"He built the World's lightest 914 and he was knew how to fix outside door handles. Other than that there ain't much to say."
