I'd recommend them to you. Great work. But you have to be patient. A life skill I need to improve wink.gif

Looks great Gwen. Tell us about the new paint. I'm guessing McMark/Brandon were involved on that.

Thanks Demick.

GTEENER looks oh so shiny again. wub.gif

Yes, the new paint was done by Brandon, facilitated by McMark. They do speedy work. I think the job was finished in a week.

Brandon did some ding/dent removal a little top-side rust reversal maintenance work then gave her a new top coat. Color match is great.

looks great! i bet the dechroming was wat made up most of the cost -

did you have them clear powdercoated AFTER the polish and paint?

Actually each step cost about equal (+/- $20 wink.gif )

No, I don't think there is a clear powdercoat over the paint & polish. At least it's not a line item on my invoice idea.gif

huh.gif weidman does great work.... but thats pretty pricey at 250 a wheel......

al reed is about 75 a wheel (paint and polish), and another 25 to powdercoat clear them, and rsr finish i think is about 125 each... ( n o idea on what he charges to dechrome.....)

with that being said, i guess you made up the difference in prices by not having to ship en to al....
GTeener
Mark quoted me $175 per wheel to paint & polish.

Then there was
$75 to strip chrome & treat
$60 to repair the one wheel's lip
$80 to dismount & mount the tires

Hmmm, idea.gif ya, guess it might 've turned out to be expensive, but they sure are purdy. Look like new wub.gif

I was most worried about getting the chrome stripped without ruining the wheels. Mission accomplished smile.gif

strip & retreat

That's where most of the cost came from. I strip for next to nothing but I charge extra to retreat.

It's a joke (we need a rimshot smilie).

Sorry to ask a stupid question, are those rims really chrome, or highly polished aluminum?

If chrome, did they come from the factory that way?

Here's my real inquiry - can these type of wheels be made to look shiny, like Gwen's wheels? If so, how and at what cost (pic is not my car - but mine looks just like it). Is there a downside?

J

They used to have chrome but aluminum doesn't like being chromed and eventually rejects it, hence the fugly bubbly peeling icon8.gif Pretty sure it was not factory chrome-work.

What you see in the pictures here are all polished aluminum.

And Aaron, I was cautioned by a co-worker yesterday not to have the clear powdercoating as it will yellow over time icon8.gif

no fuch was evere sent out by the factory mirror polished nor chromed....

gwen - i didnt have mine powdercoated for the same reason.

80 bucks to mount and dismount tires? huh.gif ouch.

this stuff has been recommended by some of my biker buddies......Pig Snot polish and waxes

does this "mirror polishing" make the wheels a high maintenance item? Anyone have long-term experience as to what is required to keep them looking good?
