Just when I think everything is going great, my wipers decide to turn on by themselves when I finish making a right hand turn. They wipe once or twice and stop. The lever is in the off stop, and I am not hitting the lever by accident. The car is a 74.

Anyone have this problem? I suspect the answer is time for a new switch but...... Anyone gotta a cheap working switch?

Cheap ? probably. Working? I don't know.
I Suspect you have a wire that has worn through and grounding it's self inside the column.
or one of the screws has worked loose that holds all that crap together.

had that problem on a Super Beetle after the thing was vandalized(bent the wiper and turn signal arms down) Apparently the switch was damaged, never fixed it as it was very intermittent. Later Super Beetles had many extremely similar/identical parts to 914's
