Story I recall was it was owned by an attorney who had most of the work done. Seems as I recall it sell and being offered for sale a couple times more in the last couple years. Camp914 may know something about it.
Car looks very nice, hard to understand why it keeps showing up for sale.

that car has
the best sounding /6 motors I have ever heard on a street motor.......
last time it was for sale was by someone in the LA area I think....according to his ad, the car was just too much for him and he wanted something a little tamer

It's still listed for sale on the craig's site. $45k there.
I showed that one to my wife to convince her my car was worth something.

If you won the lottery you could probably afford to upgrade every non-menbers', of the non-club, car to that level of DAMB
Megamillions up to $265 million.

All the owners probably kept wetting themselves when they hit the gas

was on eBay in Sept 2003
auction ended early => "item no longer available"
since then the reserve of $ 27k wasn't met
seller was "sellingmadesimple" - from Concord, CA
(they currently offer an AMC Javelin SST)

I think that car was in a magazine that I have somewhere - could be Excellence or European Car. I'll see if I can find it.

It was in Excellence. I love this car and have seen it several times and even spoke to the original owner several times. He ended up with so much into it because he paid shops to do all the work. He also had bad luck with the first couple engines and then paid Jerry Woods to build the 3.8.
The owner told me that if he was going to do it over he do the car milder. He told it was too much race car and not enough of a street car for him.
It seems to have traded hands in the low $30Ks each time. I honestly keep wondering why the various owners keep reselling it. My guess is that they aren't '914 guys' and then when the thrill is over they are ready to get out of it.

I met the owner of that car, Mr. Ernie King, in 2002 at the Stanford Concors d'Elegance.
He had the car for sale at that point for a cool 50K.
Very nice guy. Everything that was done to that car was top knotch. He also mentioned to me at that time he was taking the car to Jerry Woods to be tuned or something to get it just right.
He apparently had the car many years (I'm thinking 10+ at least) and the car evolved into the current 3.8L engine.
It was quite an impressive car but look like a race car and not something to drive on the street.

I tried to buy the blue 916... Offered $60K I think... Went for well over $100K.
BTW, I DID win the lottery last night. Honestly!
I won 3 out of 6 numbers. $4.50!
I'm rich!
I can buy 1.5 gallons of gas now!

Why for sale? Maybe for a 50% profit, $30K to $45!
This car seems to prove once again, buy someone else's completed project if you are concerned about the "investment".

yes, it's 914.2.33.0017
but Dr. William Hamley didn't own this 916 - he was the man who was instructed to do the sales thing
the white one is 914.2.33.0019, still waiting to get restored too ...

Excellence Mag May 1995.
Story by Peter Stout.
Ex-Owner name was Ernie King, very nice fellow he also had a R5 Turbo.
I have always like this car and I love Silver color.
I was thinking really hard about buying this car, then I got my red 914-6 3.5 .
If I had the extra cash I would buy it and my wife would shoot me. My kid would love it one more family car that they all cannot fit into at the same time. But it makes family trips to the park interesting and fast.
I need to build/buy a race 914-6 that I can go all out on at the track.

My first car-mag story was about that car...
That article launched my career and one of my most cherished friendships. Just had lunch with Ernie on Friday, as a matter of fact. So this 914 will always be special to me.
And my, my it IS quick. But it's definitely not "too much" speed. If anything, it doesn't feel THAT quick. Esp. for what it cost to build -- and Ernie will agree with this. Ernie and I debate it all the time, but I think the car needs to lose the cage (hello, Engman?) and go back to 16-inch Fuchs with 16-inch tires...iffn the next owner wants to enjoy it on the street.
Be curious to see what it goes for, but it will probably bug me if it don't find a good loving home. It was built so beautifully, it's tough to watch it bounce around.

First thing I noticed was that horrible front down tube for the hoop. In a roll over, all of those bends would just give and drive that knee bar right into you. It would be a "knee bar" because in the event of a roll-over, you would amputate everything below the knees... I just had to snapshot that to show my chassis guy this week.
Other than that though that car is really nice looking! I have some snapshots of that car saved in my pictures in fact that I found online in the past.

Car is no longer available on Ebay. I saw it this morning at selling dealer. It is a fantastic looking 914-6. The perforated leather seats looked factory, body and paint gorgeous....then there are those huge rear tires sitting under the fuel injected 3.8. Dealer said it was sold and going to Arizona. He did not hesitate when asked the selling price and answered "45". Guess if any 914 is worth that kind of money, the "King" car would be it.
