Removed my motor and was wondering if it is OK to powerwash the engine and transmission to remove years of gunk?

I powerwashed mine once it was out and I didn't have any problems to speak of. However, you will end up having to use elbow grease anyway for the really caked on crap so I would suggest limiting the amount of water you use. If I had it to do over I would just use cleaner, brushes, and a grden hose to wash it off once I was done. That high pressure stuff can put water into some weird places if your seals are old. I say forget the pressure wash and do it by hand. I know it seems like it will take longer, but you can control the process much better.
