I've been stripping my engine bay and rear trunk in preparation for POR 15.
I've found the easiest way for me is to annihilate the area with aircraft stripper and then pressure wash all the dead paint away. Wire wheeling the dead paint throws the stripper all over my skin
So about 70 percent of the paint is gone. But there's little patches of paint left everywhere. I see pictures of engine bays completely stripped of paint, bare metal.
How do you guys do it?

stripper. put it on thick. then put THICK painters plastic over it (think HEAVY drop cloth from homedepot). this keeps it from evaporating. let it sit all day. in the sun.
now, pull plastic off. throw away.
grab putty knife or scraper and go to town.
what didnt come off, needs to be wirebrushed or wirewheeled or sanded off.

Do you lay the plastic directly on the stripper?

I found that the 3m pads in the photo below take off paint (and seam sealer) way better (quicker) then the wire wheels do. Home Depot sells a version that fits on a 1/4" drill and it works excellent.

You didn't say if it is apart or not. If so sand blast it and be done with it.
Otherwise, what they said..

Screw the paint remover and use a sandblaster like everyone else.
Or acid dip the whole car!

OH!
Or you can use an orbital sander. That does the job pretty quick. On sale at harbor freight for 9 buck RIGHT NOW!.

Prep for por 15?
dude... Way to much work your doin here..
Wherever your at... stop... Take some 24 grit sand paper and kill those little area's to nock them down.
You really dont want paint stripper on metal. because you have to clean it off.. and you dont want water on your bare metal engine bay...
Use the 3m pads.. they work better than anything i've used... if you want the job to be "perfect" but por 15 doesnt apply perfectly...so ya.
just get the loose stuff off, and seal it up with por 15.

Aaron speaks wisdom.
One thing I would add... take a utility knife and scratch the paint heavily before you apply the stripper. That will give the stripper a place "get under" the paint easily. A good cross-hatch will speed the process along.
Don't be a gorilla with the knife. You want to penetrate the paint, not dent the metal beneath.
hope this helps,
Rusty

I have walked in your shoes man...my best friend in the garage has been my pneumatic die grinder and 2" roll-lock disc of 80 grit. It has saved the elbow from the grease...

I'm doing the wire wheel/palm sander/paint stripper rout. Wish I'd have just ponied up the money to acid dip. If ya have the bucks thats the rout to go unless you like having paint dust in every orifice!
Good luck,
BJ
