2pm:
while my 914 sat in the shop with bad Wheel Bearings (see below) I rode my
bike down to Long's to get my 4 rolls of film from the German AutoFest.

I see this Black, Flared 914 that I've now seen numerous times around town.
I actually met this 20-something young lady about a month ago out at the mall.
Seemed very nice, I gave her a RoadGlue.com sticker (I only had one 914 club sticker
& gave it to James Adams from Texas) told her about this site. I haven't seen
her show up here yet, but she did express interest in coming to an event sometime.

5.15pm:
my buddy calls to ask: do you know someone in town that drives a Lime Green 914?

I haven't met the guy, but I think I know who it is. I think it's the guy that had the
dark Green 914, that rolled & totaled it.
I *think* it's the same guy because the 20-something girl with the Black, Flared 914
told me she had bought some things from the totaled 914 & that he'd bought a lite
Green 914.

Why ask about the Lime Green 914, I ask.

He just smashed the front end of Lime Green 914 into the back of an Impala over
here on McHenry ave. Some guy pulling into Pep Boys, basically stopped, and all
the traffic behind him jammed on their brakes, he wasn't able to stop in time.

then...

9pm: I went for a bike ride, (andrew & his dad were NOT working on his 914
at 9.45pm lol) while going down McHenry I notice an Orange 914 in the drive-thru
at a fast-food mexican place. I waited for him to get his food, then stopped and
chatted with him.
I told Sean, about both RoadGlue.com AND this site (and it's 1100+ members) and
the 914 breakfast and finally the Hooter's event tonite!!! boldblue.gif
He says he saw the RoadGlue.com sticker on the Black, Flared 914.
(YES, I gave her that sticker!)
He said he'd check out our site, and hopefully join us for an event sometime.

meanwhile, earlier in the day...

my mechanic calls to inform me that the book calls for 2.8hrs, for EACH side to do the
Rear Wheel Bearings. OUCH ohmy.gif
He also says my rear arms are still loose/moving around. This of course should NOT
be happening after Mueller did the poly-bushings for me a month ago.
Asked Brad about this, and he said it might be the inner ear(?), though I told him
Mueller had checked both sides.

Whew! I only drove my 914 the 8 blocks from my mechanic to my house on Wed,
but 914s sure were in my day, ALL day!
Mueller
Hey Scott,

Is your mechanic open on Sat. I'd like to look at the rear trailing arms to see what is happening?!?!?!

Or do you know what time he opens up tommorow morning?

This has really got me confused as to what is going on with your suspension blink.gif

Mueller:
> Is your mechanic open on Sat.

..I just got off the phone with him Mike, he's Not going to be there on Sat.

> Or do you know what time he opens up tommorow morning?

..he's usually there by 8.30am.
How about I come by your place on Sat, and we put it up on jackstands?
He told me I 'shouldn't' take it over to SF tonite, because of the heat build-up
from driving on the fwy.

> I'd like to look at the rear trailing arms to see what is happening?!?!?!

..I knew you would, being the good guy that you are. beer.gif
Mueller
Sat. morning would would.....don't you still have to drive on the freeway to come to my place or not???

I guess not?!?!?!
ChrisReale
Is the inner suspension ear nut torqued down properly? Mine wasnt (after it was aligned) and wiggled. I replaced the nut, and its all good
Mueller
I couldn't imagine it coming loose with the amount of torque I put on it.....I think it is something totally different that his mechanic missed.

I'll give a full report !!!
Scott Carlberg
Chris,
it is REAlly hard to *read* what you wrote there.....

with Andy as your Avatar!!! lol laugh.gif

I asked my mechanic if anything was loose, he said he did tighten some things up,
but it didn't affect the movement.

Mueller:
yeah I would have to drive on the fwy to your house, but, you're only 50 miles away,
while Hooter's is 90 miles away. I could take the chance, but prolly not worth it.
They'll be other Hooter's events, right?

Is Sat good for you Mike? Are you going to the Breakfast? Let me know what time,
IF saturday works for you?
Mueller
I'm not going to the breakfast on Sat, so as usual, the earliest the better in the morning since Sherryl has a long list of honey-do's for me to accoplish this weekend smile.gif

I am wondering what heat build up the mechanic is worried about? From the new rear wheel bearing? or something else?
