I've been try to get my 1.8 L-Jet running right after my uneventful ride from LA
to Corpus Christi.

I did some measurements to see if I might have blown something out on a 1600
mile ride in three days!

I did the following:

Pulled all the plugs. The gaps were good, no obvious fouling. Two looked fine,
2 and 4, two had a lot more black on them, 1 and 3.

Ran a compression test. 90 psi on 3 and 4, 80 psi on 1 and 2. This is cold. The
car won't run well enough to heat it up.

Inspected the airflow sensor. Flapper moves freely, no binding. Throttle switch
works correctly.

Fuel pressure was 35 psi.

So, I am left with the air leak theory, which I expected. I just wanted to make
sure nothing else was amiss.

Anybody see anything strange in these numbers? The compression numbers
seem a little low, but I don't know these engines. My searches seem to indicate
higher values, but those seemed to be on bigger more powerful engines.
At least they all match!

At comment would be appreciated!

Thanks,

Jeff

Thee compression does seem low, and three of your plugs look fat to me.

Hoses; especially the small ones may look ok. But may be bad. Decel and ERG are places for vacuum leakage. I disconnected both and put rubber stoppers in the plenum and throttle boot where they connected.

The theottle body has a nopple for the vacuum advance that may get clogged with oil. Clean it out with a piece of wire or remove TB and give a good cleaning.

I recently installed an in-line vacuum gauge to monitor the possibilty of leaks after working aroiund the engine---
