Wow, anything over four is a waste. The question is, how safe will you go? My answer, get a high vehicle estimate + high insurance and leave the weight off unless ya wanna go original.
Speed, weight, looks, stock, HPs damn my head hurts.
Nice toy, me like toys.

Very cool information Joe. Definitely useful. As long as ou are at it, I'm curious what the floorpan tar and backpads weigh.

I will be following your footsteps eventually..
Amazing the weight savings of early bumpers vs. late.
More wieght would make the 914 slower, and less comparable to it's big brother the 911, yes?

It is worth the weight in cardboard if you are not fast in your driving skills...
BTW, you scared the shit out of me on that exit ramp in Long Beach.....

Joe, you should weigh yourself, then take a big deuce, then get back on the scale.
Or you could do it the "messy" way

Hey Joe, when you weigh the doors, compair the early doors to the late doors. Just moving them around the difference seems huge.

If memory serves I've saved from 15 to 22 pounds by removing all the floor tar and some seam sealer, depending on the car. Of course then you have to add back what you use to refinish it to get a true net loss.

I've done 2 restorations and I just started stripping down a 75 parts car. Behind the back pad was an asphalt sound pad. It is in pristine condition but man is it heavy. I don't think I will use it. Neither one of my other cars (72 and 73) had one. When did they use them?

I think the numbers for the doors may be a little off. If you remove the tar as well and the hardware it should come out at about 10-13 pds from what I have gotten.
Joe can you tell me how you cut that heavy bar out? Was it only attached at both end or spot welded along the sides.
