Full Version: New site feature: a 914 FAQ
914World.com > The 914 Forums > 914World Garage

Some time ago, McMark finally shut up my whining about there not being a FAQ by making me the moderator for the Classics forum, so I'm making good on that by starting a set of FAQs, as well as editing the existing Classics threads (removing off-topic posts, organizing things where possible).

I've added a General FAQ, and will be adding FAQs for other subjects over time. How to get started in motorsports, restoration, brakes, conversions, etc.

I've already run some of the "answers" by the people on the board that are experts in that area, and I intend to continue that practice. I strongly encourage everyone to PM me with: corrections on the existing answers, expansions on the existing answers, new questions (with answers), and ideas for new categories.

The next time someone asks an FAQ on the board, point them to the Classics forum.

Many thanks to davep and Eric Shea for their assistance.

why "can't" I turbo a 914??

An article called "It's not a Honda, dummy" could be written for those that are new to the 914 and think it'll be cheap and easy to bolt-on go fast goodies smile.gif

- what body kits are available and who makes them?

Anyways, back on topic now, how about the correct adjustments for valves, 1.7, 1.8 and 2.0 intake & exhaust.

Jacking points is good, I'll add that.

Some of the others have already been answered. I don't have enough data on wheels and spacers, and would appreciate more "known to work" combos. I'm not covering tires other than size, as the rest just changes too often to keep up.

I haven't a clue on body kits. Perhaps that should go under "conversions".

Um.... Isn't that the point of a FAQ? biggrin.gif

Good idea.

How about a section on welding and general rust repair (teener specific)?
lapuwali
Added the jacking points question, and a question on general reliability.

There will be a full restoration category, including rust repair and welding. I will be leaning VERY heavily on others to help with this section.

There will also be a Buyer's Guide, showing things like where rust normally happens, and other things to look for.

how about

what kind of engines are used? Six versus Four?

that's a perennial and great philospical topic of discussion here....

I'd be happy to do a section on fabricating, fitting, and welding patches. I have plenty of first hand experience, as this is about all I've being doing to my car.

You can also just create a detailed post (pictures!) and we'll move it to the Classics section, and the restoration category can have an "answer" that just points to the thread.

DIY wheel restoration idea.gif

Demick posted some instructions w/ pix on the bird board I think confused24.gif

I remember seeing it somewhere...

And Wayne Cowie (type47fan) sent me a pictorial on DIYside mirror rebuilding....but now I can't find it...

And there's gotta be something about paint - identifying & decoding factory color codes.

Printable PPI checklist?

Actually, I was considering a complete "Buyer's Guide" article. A printable checklist would be nice.
