I know there is a Left and Right, but is there a front and back?

Only torsion bars on the front. Coil springs in back. Look above your rear wheels and you'll see them.

actually it can be argued that there is not a right or left since the bar gets twisted in an up and down motion....so, no correct fore or aft position, spline count is the same at both ends of the torsion bars...

Oh, yeah. I misunderstood the question...

Generally we put the L & R at the back. If you reversed the ends and the sides, then it would work in the same orientation. This is useful if you wind up with a pair of L's for example. I don't know that they are made differently, but I think they take a 'set' when they are in use for some time.
And for what it is worth, a coil spring is a torsion bar in a different shape.
