I just received my QR from TC Racing in the mail this morning
A very nice one I might say (see pic below)

What I like about it:

• It's simple, small and light
• There's no slob
• It is 'bolt on' (no welding or machining required)
• When putting it back on the hub, you can't mis-align it (like with a splined QR)
• You can use it with about any aftermarket steeringwheel (the wheel you already have, or you have a lot of choice for a new one)
• It's pretty cheap! ( $ 115.- )

The only (very) minor setback is that it doesn't fit a Momo-style HUB
(don't worry, it does fit a Momo-style wheel though!!!)
You need a Raid-style hub, but they sell these for $30, so that aint too expensive either

Then again, if you don't have a hub yet, that's no problem at all
(my car already had a Raid-style hub )

I've got one of those, too.

I bought it from them on Ebay about 2 1/2 years ago for $60.
I love it, the only bad thing is, if you injured one of your hands/arms in an accident, it may be tough to get the wheel off.

Other than that its great!!

How does that thing affect the steering wheel spacing? It looks like it might add .5" to 1" (a good thing).

Do the release arms interfere with the turn signal and wiper arms?

No problems with anything, put the wheel a little closer to me which is nice.

My only complaint wasn't with the QR but with the wheel I picked out.
I got a MOMO Monte Carlo and I think it's just a bit too small. I live with it
for a little while longer and get a slightly larger wheel. I've been thinking about
one of the MOMO Porsche factory race-car wheels you see advertised occasionaly.

No matter how much I like the Momo prototipo steering wheel, no way I'm gonna pay that much for it.
The prices I've seen are abso-fucking-lutely rediculous ($300+)

What's the diameter of your Momo MonteCarlo wheel?

The spacing is 1" max and I think the release arms are no where near big enough to interfere with the wipers stalks

The car's not here, so I can't tell you for sure, but I bet I went and got the 320 when the 350 would have been better.

Pelican lists the Prototipo at $199. That's not too bad.

I like the Prototipo a lot too, but Brad had one sitting in his office that was cracked across the bottom spoke. This was from track use but not a wreck. I think the holes in the spokes weaken it too much.

I already have a splined hub which will get welded onto my car. I was designing a bolt-on quick release hub for the 914 until I saw that these guys already sold one at the shallow end of the price pool.

Call me a CSOB, but I've gotten a very similar wheel for $80 (new)

which wheel is that?

Did you put the crest on it?

It's a Poli Racing wheel
They make most (if not all) of the Momo, OMP and Sparco wheels
It's 350mm diameter, deepdished (90mm, I like to have the wheel close and this way I don't need a spacer) and suede covered rim

The crested horn button came from one of my boxes of unused crap

TC Racing has a very similar wheel (but mind that theirs doesn't have the momo-style bolt-patern)

I WISH I could find the quick release setup that Posche uses in the GT3 and GT3RS cars. Its not round. Its this weird shaped teardrop. You cannot put the wheel on incorrectly.

I like that wheel Jeroen. Some of our local racers are using the Rally type of wheels with 2 large spokes.

I like it a lot too, it's a very nifty design

It was actually on the top of my list, but decided against it because it's a little under 3" in depth and even though I like to be close to the wheel, this would have me steering with my teeth instead of my hands

It would work very nice with a flat or low dished wheel though

There is a guy from my part of the woods that should be fabricating those funny shaped quick release ala factory way.

He showed me the one he had on his monster (early 911 with 3.6 biturbo). The quick release mecanism has a bit of play in it (the mecanism looks like a gear with a groove in the middle). Once the steering wheel is matted to the quick release, the slop is pretty impressive. He told me that it didn't feel safe and was somehow affecting the feel he had of the car on track.

There is absolutely no slop in the quick release pictured above!

The factory QR is "egg" shaped in diameter and widens to the base
A very smart design
I'll see if I can scan some pics from one of my catalogs...

They're not cheap though. About $250 IIRC

Looks very good. Do you have 911&914/6 style steering colum or is it like 914/4 style ? Does it fit both ?

I can tell where it attaches to the wheel, but what about the piece on the steering column?
Does it use a hub of some sort?

ayup, it mounts to a regular momo-style hub...
it's also available as 'weld on' though
